Energy providers now offer a range of compelling tariffs designed for home charging your electric vehicle at discounted rates. Just about all the leading suppliers have launched rates that are much better than your usual SVT or fixed home tariff. They tend to be for specific times, specific vehicles or specific EV chargers.
There are now more than 10 different tariffs on the market and more coming along each month. They give you discounted electricity when you charge your electric vehicle at home - but they all come with some sort of catch or constraint. All the tariffs need a smart meter.
We've listed all the latest prices and offers below. Some have strict eligibility criteria and won't be suitable for everyone. You will need to switch your home electricity provider if you find a tariff not offered by your existing supplier. In most cases, you won't need to switch your gas supply.

What is the most popular EV tariff?
The UK's most popular EV tariff is Intelligent Octopus Go, one of the first smart charging EV tariffs on the market. It now has over 200,000 electric vehicles and home chargers connected.
Similar to OVO's Charge Anytime, this is an 'intelligent tariff' that is priced at 7p per kWh and there are specific EVs and Home Chargers that must be connected.
The big difference to the OVO EV tariff is that Octopus also give you cheap charging for the whole home overnight (six hours every night between 11:30pm and 05:30am). However, there is a downside - the home charging unit rate and standing charge is higher than other Octopus home tariffs.
What is the difference between Octopus Go and Intelligent Octopus?
Octopus also offer a simpler overnight tariff called Octopus Go. It has no vehicle eligibility rules but it is more expensive and has a shorter 5-hour overnight charging discount window.
How does OVO Charge Anytime work?
Charge Anytime is an 'intelligent tariff'. This means that OVO will control your vehicle charging in order for you to access the cheap 7p rate. The rate is 'Anytime' - it's not restricted to overnight charging. If you need your car to charge immediately you can override the smart charging - but you will be charged the full home rate.
To access it, you must connect either your home EV charger or your electric vehicle directly - and not all vehicles or chargers are eligible, so make sure yours works before you sign up.
Charge Anytime is not technically a tariff, and it only applies to your EV. You add it on to your existing home electricity tariff.
What should I think about when choosing these tariffs? Here are the 3 key things to know before you make your choice. 1. Don't just look at the headline EV rate. There is often a higher rate outside of the discounted charging window. Your car energy might be cheaper, but your home energy cost may go up. 2. Some of the discounted windows are shorter than others. You may not be able to fully charge your EV in the discounted period - so you end up paying the non-discounted rate. 3. Not all the tariffs work with solar panels. Check eligibility carefully.
